What is a Spirit to spirit hello?

A spirit to spirit hello is the acknowledgement to yourself and another that you are not your body; you are not your reality.  It acknowledges that you are Divine, from and with the Great Spirit, a soul in their body walking their path (or not). It is akin to the Hindi spiritual intonation of the word Namaste: The God in me says hello to the God in you.

Hey, those lists are pretty much the same!

This may sound trite, or unimportant, but if and when we refuse to acknowledge the god in ourselves, our divinity, life can take a slow, downhill turn. Instead of taking time to acknowledge the brightness within, we acknowledge the opposite, that without light. We need both ends of the spectrum in order to know one from the other, but  (and I say from experience for myself and from those I’ve worked with) it’s more fun to be in the light and aware of the dark rather than be in the dark while trying to grasp some rays light, or worse, giving up on the light altogether.

Some of us are starving for spirit to spirit hellos.  We may try and fill the void through food, media, or substance addition.  We may go to church, do everything “right” (whatever that may be according to the individual)–yet we still hunger for someone to see us–to see our pain, our desire, our gifts, who we are, and love us all the same.

I grew up religious, in a devout household, replete with Catholic private schooling.  I loved the nuns who taught me all about religion, and my classmates who I loved to play and joke with.  My elementary school experience helped validate who I was as a spirit–my teachers said hello to me daily.  Yet when I came home family drama more often than not overtook a spirit to spirit hello space.

As I navigated  early adulthood and learned the way the world worked (not very spiritual or soul validating, mind you), I found another way of receiving spirit to spirit hellos.  It was through my first spiritual counseling. I cried as the readers/psychics touched on my pain, things I was hiding that I thought no one else could see.  It was a relief, and made me feel not so alien, not so alone.

Growing up, a lot of people liked me.  I don’t think I did anything special to deserve others’ affection, other than say hello to them as spirit–to listen to them, to validate them, and be authentic with helping them find the positive and/or guidance whatever their situation.  If you’ve ever had the experience of random strangers telling you their problems or miracles they created?  If so, they see your spirit-to-spirit hello light shining miles away.  They know that light will validate them as spirit, wherever they are on their path.

Great hello givers may not always be the best hello receivers.  Receiving something, being given to, may light up programming or modeling from early experience that doing so would be selfish, or that we are not worthy.   Examples include not being able to take a compliment,  or not allowing yourself to be “seen” in order to hide  imperfections.

Life without spirit to spirit hello is no fun.  First and foremost, it doesn’t allow for validation for you as a spirit creating in a body.  Then, that creates insecurity.  When we are insecure, we go into hiding, meaning we don’t shine our light.  We don’t shine our light because we don’t feel safe to do so (or maybe we do, but only in certain situations).  In my case, growing up in elementary school, I felt very safe to shine mine light.  Yet, at home, into high school and early adulthood, not so much.

Don’t wait for someone else to give you a spirit to spirit hello.  Do you it yourself!

And don’t limit hellos to people.  Say hello to trees, water bodies, living beings, etc.  Have you ever noticed that pets are great at giving spirit to spirit hellos? They are unconditional, and can always see the light within.  And that’s how you do it.  You say hello to the light within.  During Catholic mass, it’s the time when members of the community turn to each other and say, “Peace be with you,” in yoga, it’s “namaste.” In life, it’s you taking a moment, going within, and saying, “hello self; I see you and I love you.  Hello God/Supreme Being/Creator/Universe–I am part of you.  I am the creator of my life.  Thank you!”
